Every day you must get some great artwork, memorabilia, artifact or other interesting item to frame. What better way to promote your framing skills and share your beautiful work with the world than with Instagram. Bonus points that it's really easy to use, and doesn't require you to figure out how to get your photo off your phone, onto your computer, and up on your website (even thought Bevelsmith makes this last part really easy). First you'll need to download the Instagram App for your smartphone and set up an account. When you first open the program on your phone, you'll need to Register (or Sign in if you've already created an account).
You can either log in using other social media accounts or create an Instagram account - your choice.
Once you've logged in you can connect with friends - this is a good thing to do as then you'll have fun photos to look at, and also will be sharing your photos with your network. You can also always add friends later.
You'll also want to personalize your Instagram account by adding a profile picture. To add your profile picture click on the lower righthand button:
and then click on the blank image next to the Edit Your Profile section (I've already uploaded a picture of my husband and I)
You'll next be promopted to select a picture - they give you lots of ways to either select an existing image from your phone or choose one from various social media networks.
OK, now the boring stuff is all done so you can get to the fun stuff - taking pictures of your store, frames you've created, or artwork you've done. To take a picture, in Instagram click on the Camera icon on the center/bottom of the screen:
and take the picture of your frames by clicking the round camera icon at the bottom of the screen.
Select a filter that you think gives your image the right feel. This is fun so play around with a couple of different filters to see which looks best.
In addition to selecting a filter, you can rotate the image by tapping on the rotate button:
give the photo a border:
give the photo the effect of looking through a rainy window by tapping on the raindrop:
or really boost the contrast of your photo by tapping the constrast icon:
Once you've got the photo looking super cool, click Next. Then give your image a descriptive caption, if there are people in your image tag them by clicking Add People, and select which social media networks you want to share this image with. It will automatically be shared on Instagram to your followers, but if it's a great shot, why not share it with Facebook or Twitter too? When you're done, click Share and blam you have just shared your most recent framing victory with the world.
If you really get addicted to Instagram (this is definitely a possibility) you can link your website to your Instagram profile (Bevelsmith makes this easy too!). This is a good way to gain more followers and reach out to your community. Instagram already makes your profile look beautiful. To access your online Instagram profile, go to http://instagram.com/ and log in with your account information. In the upper right, click on your profile image and select View profile.
You'll see that Instagram already arranges your most recent images for you - pretty slick, eh?
